How parking-spot sharing works

Sharing a parking spot within your HOA or apartment building doesn't have to be complicated. An owner marks when their spot is free, and a neighbour books it directly: no middleman, no key handover, no board involved. Below you'll find exactly how offering, booking and managing a spot work in practice, from the first listing to the notification that someone has parked.

  1. Step 1

    Share your spot

Indicate per day, weekend or week when your parking spot is free.

  2. Step 2

    A neighbour books

A resident sees the free spot and books it directly, no intervention needed.

  3. Step 3

    Off you park

The borrower parks; you get a notification and see who's there.

A worked example: an ordinary workday

Marieke works nine to five at the office. Before she leaves, she opens the app and lists her parking spot as free until 5 pm: one tap on the preset, no time window to type in herself. Her neighbour Peter already checked half an hour earlier whether anything was free, sees that spot 12 is available, books it for the morning, and parks there until his own appointment in town. Marieke gets a notification the moment he books, with his name and phone number in case anything comes up. At five, when Marieke gets back, the spot is automatically hers again: no messaging back and forth, no key handover, no board involved.

For owners

Do you have your own parking spot you don't use every hour of the day? Make it available for exactly the period you choose. Use a preset (now for 1, 2 or 4 hours, until 5 pm today, or until tomorrow morning) or pick your own time window. Take the train to the office on set days? Repeat the same block automatically every week with a single checkbox, so you don't have to set it up again each time.

As soon as a neighbour books, you get a notification with their name and phone number, so you know who's parked there and can reach them if needed. Got a charging point at your spot? Flag it when you list it, so a borrower with an electric car can find it more easily. And if you share the spot with a partner or housemate (say, because you own it together), the system links you automatically: you both see each other's bookings and the spot's schedule, with nothing to arrange yourselves.

For borrowers

Need a spot for an errand, an afternoon, or a whole weekend? Open the app and see at a glance which spots are free right now, whose they are, and until when. Book directly: no application, no waiting, no intervention from the owner or the board. You immediately see the owner's phone number too, so you can reach them if anything changes.

Need the spot longer than planned? Extend your booking in a couple of taps, as long as no one else has claimed it afterwards. Leaving earlier than expected? Release the spot early so another neighbour can still use it. Afterwards, rate your experience in a few seconds, useful for the owner, and a handy reminder for yourself next time.

Privacy

We don't store a readable email address for users. We only store an irreversible hash so we can recognise you when you log in, but no one can work out which address you use from it. Phone numbers are only visible to other residents of the same building.

Security

Logging in is via a magic link by email, no password needed. Each environment is fully isolated from other buildings. Residents only see parking spots and bookings from their own building.

Liability

LokaalParkeren brings residents with a parking spot together; the arrangements about that (such as actually keeping a spot free) are made between residents themselves. We do our best to keep the service reliable, error-free and secure, and take appropriate measures to do so, but cannot guarantee it. Even with due care, a hack, data breach or other IT incident can never be fully ruled out. The makers of LokaalParkeren are not liable for damage, missed arrangements, data loss or other consequences arising from use of the platform, from arrangements between residents, or from IT and security incidents.

Frequently asked questions about sharing a parking spot

Do I lose my spot if I share it?
No. The spot stays yours; you decide when it's free and can withdraw that at any time. By default, a spot isn't open at all.
Can I charge for it?
Sharing is free by default. An HOA can set an hourly amount that residents settle between themselves; LokaalParkeren doesn't process payments itself.
Who can see my details?
Only residents of your own association. Every HOA gets its own screened-off environment on its own subdomain.
What if someone's still parked after the end time?
You see who's parked there and get a notification. Residents sort that out between themselves; the platform doesn't enforce it.
Do I need to install an app?
No. You log in with an email link, no password, right in your phone's browser.
